In a heated speech, Sarjis Alam, the Chief Organizer of the National Citizens Committee and General Secretary of the July Martyrs` Memorial Foundation, criticized India`s decision to provide refuge to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Speaking at a seminar organized by the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh in Chattogram on Saturday, Alam claimed that this action goes against the collective emotions of the Bangladeshi people.
The seminar, which discussed "Opposing India`s Political and Cultural Dominance, Regional Issues of Chattogram, and the Need for National Unity," was attended by a number of political leaders and professionals.
Sarjis Alam, who was invited as a special guest, did not hold back in his remarks.
"By sheltering the murderer Sheikh Hasina, India has chosen to stand against the sentiments of the people of Bangladesh," he said.
"She must be sent back to face trial in Bangladesh."
Sarjis Alam also pointed out the long-standing alliance between the Awami League and India, stating, "For the past 16 years, the Awami League has aligned India with forces that do not prioritize Bangladesh`s interests. Sheikh Hasina, a bloodthirsty murderer, has yet to satisfy her thirst for violence. Despite everything, she continues to speak of murder without an ounce of regret."
In his closing statements, Sarjis Alam warned, "If India continues to exert hegemonic control over Bangladesh, the relationship between our countries will not stand the test of time."
The seminar, which also saw speeches from various political leaders, concluded with a call for unity in the nation.
Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh and Chhormonai Pir, urged everyone to come together to foster national unity.
He also called for the implementation of a proportional representation electoral system to ensure fair and equal participation in the political process.
